BUFFALO, NY – Running back Ron Cook, Jr. and safety Marcus Fuqua were named the Mid-American Conference East Division Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, the league announced on Monday. Both played integral roles in the Bulls come-from-behind victory over Toledo on Saturday.
Cook rushed for a career-high 118 yards and the game-winning touchdown in a 34-27 win over Toledo. The senior running back averaged 6.6 yards per carry. He scored on a 30-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter to give the Bulls the lead for good after trailing by 17 heading into the fourth quarter. Cook added three receptions for 40 yards in the game.
Cook leads the Bulls in rushing with 496 yards on the season and has scored three touchdowns. He is also fourth on the team in receiving with 13 catches for 154 yards.
Fuqua tied an FBS-era program record with three interceptions against Toledo on Saturday. He played a key role in sparking a comeback win over the Rockets. After making his first interception at the end of the second quarter, the junior safety made two interceptions in the fourth quarter that led to points and helped the Bulls rally from a 17-point deficit. His second interception led to the Bulls' go-ahead touchdown. His third interception led to a UB field goal with 47 seconds left that extended the lead to seven points and help ice the game for the Bulls. Fuqua added four tackles in the game.
It's the second time this season Fuqua has been honored by the MAC. He was also named MAC East Defensive Player of Week following his opening game performance against Maryland.
Winners of five straight, Buffalo will next play at Ohio on Nov. 1.
