
UB Student-Athletes Post Fourth-Highest GPA in Department History for Fall Semester

BUFFALO, NY – It was another successful semester in the classroom for UB student-athletes as they posted a 3.179 grade point average for the fall semester – the fourth-highest GPA in department history. In addition, three different teams recorded program-high GPAs.
Women's tennis claimed the top spot for the fall semester with a 3.863 team grade point average. Men's cross country led all men's teams with a 3.556 GPA. Teams that posted the highest GPA in program history included soccer (3.662), men's track and field (3.424) and wrestling (3.129).
Along with having their best GPA in program history, soccer also had the most improved semester from the spring, increasing their GPAs by 0.145 points, followed by men's track and field (+0.091) and wrestling (+0.002).
Overall, 11 teams had a 3.0 grade point average or better – women's tennis (3.863), soccer (3.662), men's cross country (3.556), softball (3.552), swimming and diving (3.501), men's track and field (3.424), women's cross country (3.340), women's track and field (3.258), men's tennis (3.245), volleyball (3.162) and wrestling (3.129).
The department had 43 student-athletes with perfect 4.0 GPAs and 160 posted a 3.5 or better. In all, 244 student-athletes (68 percent) reached the 3.0 plateau.
"We would like to congratulate our student-athletes on another outstanding semester in the classroom," Associate Athletic Director for Academic Affairs Aaron Stang said. "Our coaches and staff couldn't be more proud of the work and dedication our student-athletes put towards achieving their academic goals. We continue to keep our department's academic success on a strong upward trajectory, having now achieved the four highest GPAs in department history the last two years. I am especially grateful for the support and time that our Athlete Academic Affairs staff provide and am thankful for the support of our coaches and faculty members who continue to encourage our student-athletes to achieve excellence in the classroom."
