Camp Spotlight: Running Backs

One of the biggest issues the Bulls will need address in 2021 is replacing All-American running back Jaret Patterson. The former star running back left UB second in school history in rushing with 3,884 yards and a program-best 52 rushing touchdowns in only three seasons.
Fortunately, the Bulls have another All-MAC running back in the stable in Kevin Marks, Jr. A senior, Marks ranks seventh in school history in career rushing with 2,621 yards and sixth in school history with 28 rushing touchdowns. He averaged 106 yards per game last season en route to earning All-MAC Third Team honors.
Dylan McDuffie will likely get more carries this season after injuries slowed him a bit in 2020. While McDuffie only appeared in three games in 2020, he did average 6.5 yards per carry in 10 games in 2019. McDuffie has shown the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. He had a touchdown grab at Liberty in 2019.
Ron Cook, Jr. will also likely play a more prominent role in 2021. He had 20 carries for 80 yards last season. Cook is very athletic and excelled on special teams, earning All-MAC honors as a punt/kick returner in 2020.
Caron Robinson looked strong in his one game as a true freshman in 2020. He had five carries for 36 yards against Akron.
Walk-on Tajay Ahmed is in his third season with the program. On his first career carry, he ripped off a 44-yard touchdown run against Akron.
Redshirt-freshman Kolbe Burrell has bounced back from an injury that forced him to miss the 2020 campaign.
Freshmen Mike Washington and Al-Jay Henderson have both shown flashes in camp and will add depth at the running back position. Washington, from Clay, NY, earned all-state honors after rushing for 1,423 yards and 14 touchdowns. Henderson rushed for 1,055 yards, averaging 9.75 yards per carry, as a senior at Irvington High School in New Jersey.
Walk-on Ryan Razzano rounds out the running back room.
The 2021 season kicks off on September 2 against Wagner at UB Stadium. For tickets contact the UB ticket office at 1-877-UB-THERE or click here.
