
Bulls Take on Defending MAC Champs Friday Evening

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women's swimming and diving team (1-0, 0-0 MAC) will face the defending MAC champions, University of Akron (2-0, 2-0 MAC). The dual meet is set to begin on Friday, Feb. 5 at 5 p.m. at the Alumni Arena Pool and Natatorium. Friday will mark the 20th meet between the two programs, as the Bulls hold a 13-6 record against the Zips all-time.
LAST MEETING
The Bulls and Zips faced off earlier in the season. The Bulls traveled to Akron for the Zippy Invite where they finished second with 1,570 points over the course of the three-day invite. The Zips would take first place with 1,953 points.
The last time the Zips were in Buffalo, they hoisted the 2020 MAC Championship trophy for their seventh consecutive year. The Bulls would have their best season to date as they finished in seconds place with 738.5 points, their most ever at the MAC Championships.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bulls dominated Duquesne as they won 12 of the 13 events for a 175-68 victory to improves to 6-0 all-time against the Dukes.
MAC Women's Swimmer of the Week honoree, Jillian Lawton, will look to zip passed her opponents this week. Lawton won the 50-yard freestyle setting a new Duquesne pool record of 23.53 seconds. She also took home first place in the 50-yard butterfly in 25.25 seconds. To close out the day, she helped the Bulls to a first place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:36.26.
The divers will get back to work as they were off last week when the swimmers were at Duquesne. The divers will see their first action in two months. They were last in the diving well at the Zippy Invite in the beginning of December. The underclassmen duo of freshman Louise Bradley and sophomore Victoria Franz look to stop Akron from zipping passed them. While the upperclassmen duo of Patricia Arceri and Journi Northorp will show their experience to help the Bulls to sweep the podium as they did in the 3-meter dive back in December.
