
Bulls Post Second-Highest GPA in Department History for Fall Semester

BUFFALO, NY – Grades have been recorded and University at Buffalo student-athletes posted the second-highest grade point average in department history for the fall semester. The Bulls' 3.197 GPA is second only to the 3.261 they posted in the spring of 2020.
Women's tennis claimed the top spot for the fall semester with a best-ever 3.767 team grade point average. Men's tennis led all men's teams with a 3.654 GPA, also a program record. Other teams that posted the highest GPA in program history included women's soccer (3.550), softball (3.459), wrestling (3.070) and football (3.023).
Men's tennis had the most improved semester from the spring, increasing their GPAs by 0.217 points, followed by women's tennis (+0.216) and softball (+0.159).
Overall, 12 teams had a 3.0 grade point average or better – women's tennis (3.767), men's tennis (3.654), women's soccer (3.550), softball (3.459), men's cross country (3.452), women's cross country (3.397), women's track and field (3.376), women's swimming and diving (3.337), women's volleyball (3.327), women's basketball (3.246), wrestling (3.070) and football (3.023).
The department had 38 student-athletes with perfect 4.0 GPAs and 163 posted a 3.5 or better. In all, 252 student-athletes (67.5 percent) reached the 3.0 plateau.
"To post the second-best GPA in department history amid a pandemic is simply incredible and shows the tremendous resolve of our student-athletes as they have to balance so much during these times," Athletic Director Mark Alnutt said. "I'm proud of our student-athletes along with our coaching and academic support staffs for embracing academic excellence – a core value we promote at UB. This is just another example of being able to excel in the classroom as well as the courts and fields of play."
