Bulls Win 12 of 13 Events to Cruise to a 175-68 Victory Over Duquesne

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The University at Buffalo women's swimming and diving team (1-0, 0-0 MAC) defeated Duquesne University (0-1, 0-0 Atlantic-10), 175-68. The Bulls earned their first win of the season as they dominated the dual meet from start to finish. The Bulls would win 12 of the 13 events to improve to 6-0 all-time against Duquesne.

Leading it off for the Bulls was the team of Nicole Roitenberg, Katie Pollock, Clarice Fisher and Antonia Naccarella as they won the 200 medley relay by almost three seconds. Their time of 1:44.63 set a new pool record at Duquesne.

Freshmen Maria Naccarella and Marij Van Der Mast had an impressive meet all around. Naccarella won the 100 freestyle (53.04), finished second in the 200 freestyle (1:56.90) and was part of the winning squad in the 200 freestyle relay (1:36.26). Van Der Mast took first in the 200 freestyle (1:53.98), fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:01.63) and was part of the third place team in the 200 freestyle relay (1:40.67).

Just like her sister, Antonia Naccarella had a fantastic day in the pool as she helped bring in 35 points form her events. In her individual events, she won the 100 backstroke (57.42) and finished second in the 50 backstroke (27.50) by .15 seconds. She helped her teammates to two victories in the 200 medley relay (1:44.63) and to close out the meet in the 200 freestyle relay (1:36.26).

NEXT UP
The Bulls will host the reigning MAC Champion Akron Zips on Friday, Feb. 5. The dual meet is set to begin at 5 p.m.
