BUFFALO, NY – Since being hired prior to the 2015 season, University at Buffalo football head coach Lance Leipold and his staff had a goal to provide a superior locker room space for their student-athletes. Thanks to the generosity of donors, that vision became a reality on Friday when the Bulls' newly renovated state-of-the-art football locker room was revealed to the team for the first time.
"We are extremely excited about our newly renovated locker room and feel it puts us on par with some of the top programs in the country," Leipold said. "This project shows a strong commitment to our football program. We want to thank our administration and all the donors that helped make it a reality."
The renovated facility features a new entrance, new lockers an expanded shower area and even a barber shop. The 119 stainless steel lockers were manufactured by the Longhorn Locker Company and feature ventilation and a dual fan drying system, storage with a keypad lock and vinyl cushioned seats with backs and headrests. Stylized wall graphics as well as a giant illuminated bull head suspended from the ceiling were installed by VSP Graphic Group.
"This project has been years in the making and we are thrilled to finally be able to reveal it to our student-athletes," UB Athletic Director Mark Alnutt said. "The new locker room was completely funded by private donations through an ongoing fundraising campaign. Once again, our donors stepped up in a huge way and we can't thank them enough for making this possible."
The renovation design and fundraising campaign began in the summer of 2019. Construction began at the conclusion of the 2019 football season.
