BUFFALO, NY – Former University at Buffalo wide receiver Anthony Johnson has been signed to the Los Angeles Chargers practice squad, the team announced on Wednesday. Johnson was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but was cut prior to the start of the season.
A two-time All-MAC selection, Johnson led the Bulls with 57 receptions for 1,011 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2018. In only 25 career games, Johnson finished his career ranked fourth in school history in career receiving yards with 2,367 and third in career touchdowns with 25. He was one of only three receivers in school history to have two 1,000-yard seasons.
Johnson joins five other former UB football players on NFL rosters. Defensive end Khalil Mack and linebacker Demone Harris are on the 53-man roster of the Bears and Buccaneers, respectively. Cornerback Cam Lewis is on the practice squad of the Bills and tight end Mason Schreck is on the practice squad of the Bengals. Defensive end Steven Means is on the Falcons' injured reserved list.
