BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo's Nick Perkins has signed a professional contract with Niigata Albirex and will continue his basketball career in Japan. The three-time MAC Sixth Man of the Year and two-time All-MAC First Team selection garnered a lot of interest this summer after playing NBA Summer League with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Since concluding his career, Perkins has played in the NABC Reese's All-Star Game, while also being named to All-Tournament team at the Portsmouth Invitational and showcasing his talents at the Professional Basketball Combine.
Perkins finished second on the team at 14.7 points per game this year and led Buffalo with 7.4 rebounds per game. He leaves UB fifth on the all-time scoring list. Perkins was one of three players in the NCAA Tournament to record double-doubles in both games during the opening week of competition. He had 21 points and 10 rebounds in the victory over Arizona State and followed that up with 17 points and 10 rebounds against Final Four bound Texas Tech.
Niigata Albirex competes in the top division of the Japan B.League, the highest level of basketball in the country. It is one of 18 teams in the first division and one of six teams in the Central Conference.
Perkins becomes the third member of this past year's team to sign a contract overseas joining Jeremy Harris and Montell McRae.
