NASHVILLE, TN – The University at Buffalo men's basketball team had its three-game win streak snapped on Tuesday night as the Bulls lost at Vanderbilt, 90-76, in its first true road game of the year. The Bulls are now 5-3 on the season.
In the opening half, the Bulls were riddled by fouls and turnovers as UB racked up 13 fouls in the opening half and turned it over 11 times against their SEC foe.
Buffalo got out the quick start on the road as the Bulls opened the game on a 10-1 run. After Vanderbilt tied it up, the Bulls would go back ahead 30-26 with 5:53 left. However, from there Vanderbilt ended the half on a 21-4 run, including a three at the buzzer as the Commodores took the 47-34 lead into the break.
The Bulls tried to use a full court press in the second half, but were unable to cut the lead to any fewer than 11. Vanderbilt extended its lead to as many as 22 in the second half until a late run from the Bulls would cut it to 14.
Senior Antwain Johnson led the Bulls with 16 points, one of three Buffalo players in double figures. Johnson added seven rebounds, one of three Buffalo players to finish with seven boards. Senior Davonta Jordan had 15 points and seven rebounds and sophomore Josh Mballa finished with 11points and seven boards.
Junior Jayvon Graves had nine points, while senior Gabe Grant added seven points and six boards off the bench. UB shot just under 40% for the game, but was 5-of-23 from behind the arc. The Bulls did a better job of taking care of the basketball in the second half, as they turned it over just six times.
The Bulls will continue their road trip on Sunday afternoon when they head to Chicago, IL to face DePaul. That game will tip off at 5 pm ET on Fox Sports 1.
