Kent State Rallies to Stun the Bulls, 30-27

The Bulls were leading, 27-6, with under eight minutes to play before the Flashes rallied. After scoring a touchdown with 7:39 left, and recovering an onside kick, Kent State needed only two plays to find the endzone again and make it a one-score game. The key play came on UB's next drive when the Flashes blocked a punt and gained possession at the UB four-yard line. They were able to punch it in from there to tie the game with 4:52 left.
After Buffalo could only manage one first down, it was forced to punt back to Kent State. The Flashes were able to move the ball to the UB 27-yard line and, with one-second left on the clock, Matthew Trickett hit a 44-yard field to win it for Kent State.
The Bulls dominated most of the statistical categories, gaining 379 yards of total offense. Jaret Patterson rushed for 141 yards in the game to go over 1,000 for the second straight season. Kyle Vantrease passed for 134 yards and a touchdown and rushed for another score. Vantrease opened the scoring with a 30-yard touchdown pass to Daniel Lee, on the Bulls' first drive, to give the Bulls a 7-0 lead. Kevin Marks also found the endzone with a 2-yard run in the third quarter.
Defensively, the Bulls had five sacks and 10 tackles for loss. Malcolm Koonce led the way with 2.5 sacks. Ledarius Mack also had a pair of sacks in the game. Matt Otwinowski tied a career-high with 10 tackles. Joey Banks had seven tackles and an interception.
The Bulls return for home for their two remaining regular season games, beginning with Toledo on Wednesday night at 7:30 pm.
