Dontay Caruthers To Continue Basketball Career With Grand Rapids Drive

BUFFALO, NY – Two-time Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Year Dontay Caruthers has agreed to continue his basketball career in the NBA G-League as he has signed with the Grand Rapids Drive, the affiliate of the Detroit Pistons.
Caruthers was named the 2019 Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Year and was also an Academic All-MAC selection. He averaged 8.6 points per game as he played in all 36 games for UB, starting three of those contests. He scored 20 or more points four times during the year, including a career-best 28 points at Bowling Green. Following that performance, Caruthers was named the MAC's Scholar Athlete of the Week.
Caruthers was also named the MAC's Defensive Player of the Year in 2017, becoming just the third player in league history to win the award multiple times.
Caruthers is the second member of last year's team to join a G-League Training Camp roster. MAC Player of the Year CJ Massinburg has been assigned to the Long Island Nets after he signed a contract with the parent club, the Brooklyn Nets, just over a week ago.
G-League training camps get underway on Monday with the regular season beginning in November.
