BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo women's basketball head coach Felisha Legette-Jack announced the signing of three-star recruit Lawrencia Moten on Friday afternoon. Moten, daughter of NBA veteran Lawrence Moten, will join the Bulls this season after finishing her career at the Bullis School.
"We are thrilled that Lawrencia will be joining our Bulls family," stated fifth-year head coach Felisha Legette-Jack. "We watched her out in Dallas and again in Atlanta and as a staff we all agree that Lala would be a welcome addition to our MAC Championship team. She is long, runs the floor like a guard, and she has great timing on blocking shots. We will develop her offensive game and her strength."
Moten is a 6-2 forward out of Bowie, MD where she played at the Bullis School. Moten suffered an injury prior to her senior season that forced her to miss all of the 2015-16 campaign. As a junior, the athletic forward averaged 11.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.3 steals per game while also earning a McDonalds All-American nomination.
The two-year team captain was named Bullis School Most Valuable Player as a junior as well as Bullis Holiday Classic All-Tournament team. The highly-touted recruit also set a school record with 20 rebounds in a game as a junior while leading Bullis to the Independent School League championship in 2012.
"I love her character, her academic strength and her undeniable love for the game," said Legette-Jack. "Lala comes from a rich pedigree of talent. Her dad is still the All Time Leading scorer in the history of Syracuse University. We welcome Lawrencia Moten to our Bulls family with open arms."
Moten joins Summer Hemphill, Tessy Onwuka and Cierra Dillard in this year's signing class for the defending MAC champions. UB returns all five starters from last season's 20-win squad.
