DEKALB, IL – The University at Buffalo baseball team fell on the road Saturday to the Northern Illinois Huskies by the score of 9-2. With the loss, the Bulls dropped to 12-22 overall on the year and 5-9 in MAC play.

After striking out four batters through the first two innings, Buffalo starting pitcher Charlie Sobieraski got into trouble in the third inning as he allowed a double and a pair of walks to load the bases with one out. Sobieraski made a mistake and Stephen Letz delivered a grand slam to give the Huskies the 4-0 lead through three innings.

After the Huskies stretched their lead to 5-0 in the fourth inning, the Bulls offense got on the board in the sixth as they notched a pair of runs to make it 5-2 in favor of the home team. Eddie Edwards III and Bobby Sheppard delivered back-to-back singles to start the inning and then Ben Vey notched a RBI single down the left field line to score Edwards III. Mike Abrunzo then stepped in and hit a deep sacrifice fly to center field to score Sheppard from third for his 17^th RBI of the season.

The Bulls wouldn't get any closer as the Huskies were able to add on four more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to put the game away and force a rubber match on Sunday, picking up the 9-2 win.

Sheppard continued to lead the Bulls at the dish as he went 3-for-4 with a run scored while Edwards III finished 2-for-3 with a run and a walk in the loss. Vey and Abrunzo collected the only RBI in the game for the bulls.

Sobieraski had a rough outing on the mound for the Bulls as he went 7.1 innings while allowing seven hits, seven runs and striking out seven. With the loss, he dropped to 4-4 on the mound for the season.

The two teams will return to the diamond tomorrow at 1:00 pm in the rubber match of their three-game series. Shawn Dubin (0-3, 3.93 ERA) will take the mound for the Bulls.
