Novice 4 Takes Bronze at Murphy Cup

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The University at Buffalo women's rowing team opened the spring portion of its schedule by competing at the Murphy Cup on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia on Saturday. UB's Novice 4 boat highlighted the day by winning the bronze medal.
The Novice 4 boat of Marissa Scaduto, Alexa Hillis, Stephanie Busha, Sara Jakiel and Hayley Nieves had the third best overall time (8:17.09) in their opening race to qualify for the finals. In the finals, they bettered their time with an 8:13.92 to earn the bronze medal. George Washington won the race with a time of 7:57.10.
Elsewhere, the Varsity 8 boat of Courtney Donovan, Samantha Paige, Sophie Wisoff, Meghan O'Brien, Rylee James, Mackenzie Turpin, Erin O'Connell, Clare Costello and Erica Tenteromano finished fifth in their heat with a time 7:00.72.
The Bulls had two boats compete in the Junior Varsity 8 race. Both boats finished fourth in their respective heats. The Buffalo "A" boat of Ally Mayo, Madeline Sheffield, Juliana Gomez, Allyssa Cotten, Jillian Michael, Tracey Zajac, Elizabeth Shilling, Sarah Brill and Paige Krohn finished with a time of 7:09.44.
The Buffalo "B" boat, made up of Melissa Stein, Hannah Annunziata, Anna Sviripa, Caterina Arnautova, Lindsey Carlsen, Lauren Heinzinger, Victoria Nehls, Dania Abul-Enin and Dannielle Kwong finished with a time of 7:29.18.
Also, the Varsity 4 boat of Caeleigh Heavey, Joy Ene, Ankita Kelkar, Sarah Butler and Emma Napper finished fourth in their heat with a time of 7:58.95.
The Bulls will next compete at the Knecht Cup in New Jersey beginning April 9.
