Sobieraski Sparkles On The Mound For Baseball; Bulls Shutout Mount St. Mary's, 2-0

EMMITSBURG, MD – Making just his fourth collegiate start on the mound, sophomore Charlie Sobieraski was stellar on Saturday afternoon against Mount St. Mary's, collecting eight strikeouts over six innings of two-hit baseball as the Bulls finished off their second straight shutout, 2-0. With the win, the Bulls improve to 5-6 overall on the season.
Sobieraski started off strong on Sunday as he struck out three of the first six batters he faced while allowing a hit in the second inning. The righty then held Mount St. Mary's to three straight 1-2-3 innings before allowing his final hit of the game in the sixth. After allowing a double to start the sixth, Sobieraski got the final two batters of the inning to strikeout, earning his team-leading second win of the season.
After three scoreless innings, the Bulls finally broke through with the game's first run in the fourth inning. Ben Haefner opened up the inning with a walk and eventually came around to score on a wild pitch by Mount St. Mary's starter Pat Daly.
The Bulls forced a pitching change to start the fifth inning and they were able to collect their second, and final, run of the game. Eddie Edwards III started the inning with a walk and he advanced to third after Alex Thrower reached first on an error by the shortstop. Bobby Sheppard then singled to load the bases with one out. After Edwards III was thrown out at home on the fielder's choice, Vinny Mallaro collected his team-leading eighth RBI of the season as he forced the walk to allow Thrower to score from third.
After a scoreless sixth inning, UB closer Mike Kaelin took the mound and finished off his third save of the season. Kaelin has been nearly unhittable as of late as he owns a 2.38 ERA while striking out 14 batters over 11.1 innings.
Sheppard was the lone Bull with a hit on the day as he went 2-for-4 at the plate as the Mount got great pitching from Daly and Hunter Shuff.
The second game of the Sunday doubleheader was postponed to Monday at 3:30 pm due to rain.
