
Baseball Powers Past Mount Saint Mary's, 15-0

EMMITSBURG, MD – The University at Buffalo baseball team racked up 16 hits en route to a 15-0 victory over Mount St. Mary's. With the dominant win, the Bulls improved to 4-6 on the year.
"Today was our best game of the year," said head coach Ron Torgalski. "We put everything together for the first time. We had great pitching, solid bats and good defense. Hopefully we can build on that again tomorrow."
Junior Alec Tuohy had the best game of his career on the mound for the Bulls on Saturday as the righty earned his second win of the season, going seven innings of scoreless baseball while striking out a season-high seven batters. Tuohy finished the game Allowing just three hits. Shawn Dubin had his best showing as a Bull as he pitched two innings while allowing one hit and striking out five batters, capping the Bulls first shutout of the season.
The Bulls started off quick on Saturday as they were able to score four first runs of the game in the first inning. Bobby Sheppard started the inning with a single before Vinny Mallaro drove him home with a RBI double to right center. Mallaro and Mike Abrunzo came around to score on a Chris Kwitzer infield single and then Andrew Taft drove in Kwitzer with a RBI double to left field.
Ben Haefner walked and Mallaro reached base on an error in the second inning before coming around to score on a Ben Vey single up the middle, making the score 6-0 after two innings. The Bulls added two runs in the fourth as Eddie Edwards III took a hit by pitch, scoring Billy Hartford. Sheppard followed with a hit by pitch of his own scoring Taft.
After a Kwitzer RBI sacrifice fly in the fifth, the Bulls added three more runs in the sixth as Sheppard knocked Edwards III in with an RBI single while Sheppard and Abrunzo came around to score on wild pitches, giving the Bulls the 12-0 lead.
Don Kilian delivered a two-RBI double to right center field that scored Brian Dudek and Ben Haefner in the eighth inning before Alex Thrower earned a walk that forced Taft across the plate to cap the Bulls 15-run outburst.
Taft had a huge day at the plate for the Bulls as he earned his first career four-hit game, going 4-for-5 at the dish while scoring two runs and one RBI. Sheppard finished off his strong game going 3-for-6 with two runs and two RBI's while Vey Kilian and Kwitzer each earned two-RBI games in the win. Haefner led the Bulls with three runs scored in the dominant win.
The Bulls will return to the diamond on Sunday at noon and 3:00 pm in their series final doubleheader.
