MOUNT PLEASANT, MI – Competing in its final road dual of the season, the University at Buffalo wrestling team fell to #22 Central Michigan, 30-9, on Sunday afternoon at McGuirk Arena.
The Bulls got off to a promising start as Central Michigan had to forfeit the first match of the day, giving Kyle Akins the win at 125 lbs. and a 6-0 lead for the Bulls.
However, the Chippewas won the next four matches, including three by major decision, to take a 15-6 stronghold in the dual.
Rrok Ndokaj won his first MAC dual of the season by topping Jordan Atienza. The redshirt-junior used a 4-point near fall to earn an 8-3 decision and close the overall gap to 15-9.
Central Michigan won the next two matches to extend its lead to 24-9 with two matches remaining. CMU's Jackson Lewis edged out James Benjamin, 9-8, at 197 lbs. In the final match of the day, heavyweight Jake Gunning took Adam Robinson to a fourth overtime, but Robinson's riding time proved to be the difference as the extra point gave him a 4-3 decision.
"Today's performance was perhaps the most disappointing result to date," head coach John Stutzman said. "With no fight, emotion, energy or want to win, I need to reevaluate each individual and figure where to go from here. One good thing was that Rrok Ndokaj really turned in a solid performance with his never-say-die attitude."
The Bulls will close out the regular season with three straight home duals beginning with Binghamton on Friday afternoon at Alumni Arena.
