
Bulls Drop Regular Season Finale to #20 Northern Iowa

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo wrestling team had its two-match winning streak snapped by Northern Iowa at Alumni Arena in the regular season finale on Friday night. The 20th-ranked Panthers defeated the Bulls, 29-9.
Northern Iowa won the first three matches, two by fall, to jump out to a 15-0 lead. Colt Cotten got the Bulls on the board with a 9-6 decision at 149 lbs., to cut the UNI lead to 15-3. Cotten improved to 10-7 on the season with the victory.
However, the Panthers responded by winning two consecutive major decisions to extend their lead to 24-3. Senior Muhamed McBryde, wrestling in his final match at Alumni Arena, went out a winner as he defeated Taylor Berger, 5-2, at 174 lbs. It was McBryde's 24th career win.
In the next match, at 184 lbs., Joe Ariola lost in overtime to Drew Foster, 7-5. James Benjamin got the Bulls final win of the night, winning a close decision over Cody Krumwiede, 2-0.Benjamin improved to 15-13 on the year with the win.
The loss dropped the Bulls to 10-9 overall and 2-6 in Mid-American Conference action. Northern Iowa improved to 4-10 overall and 3-5 in the MAC.
The Bulls will next compete at the Mid-American Conference Championships March 5 and 6 at Eastern Michigan University.
