
Women's Hoops Returns To Alumni Arena On Wednesday Night

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo, The State University of New York women's basketball team (8-4, 0-1 MAC) returns to Alumni Arena on Wednesday night to take on the Central Michigan Chippewas after a month away from home. Tip is set for 7:00 pm.
The Bulls are coming off a road loss to Eastern Michigan on Saturday afternoon in their Mid-American Conference opener. UB was downed 67-56 after falling behind by 17 in the third quarter. The Bulls made a strong push in the final quarter but came up just short as they fell to 8-4 overall on the year.
Buffalo is led offensively by two-time MAC East Player of the Week, Joanna Smith, who ranks sixth in the MAC in scoring (16.1 PPG) while also ranking third on the team in rebounding (5.3 RPG). Smith has received help offensively as of late with the addition of Cassie Oursler to the lineup. The 6-3 center has produced 8.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game since making her way back onto the court after sitting out due to transfer rules. Stephanie Reid and Katherine Ups have each had solid seasons, averaging 8.3 and 7.1 points/game respectively.
The Central Michigan Chippewas enter Wednesday's game against the Bulls with a 7-5 overall record and a 1-0 MAC mark after downing Kent State, 81-61, in their conference opener. The Chippewas are winners of three of their last four games with their lone loss coming to St. Joseph's. The Chippewas are led offensively by Presley Hudson who is averaging 16.0 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.9 assists so far this season. Cassie Breen has had a strong start to the season as she is averaging 12.0 points and 3.8 rebounds per game while Tinara Moore is averaging 8.5 points and 8.1 rebounds. As a team, Central Michigan is averaging 73.9 points/game while allowing their opponents to score just 66.8 points.
Wednesday's meeting will mark the 19th in series history with the Chippewas holding the slim 10-8 edge. Central Michigan has dominated the series as of late, winning the last six games including a 66-58 win over the Bulls last season.
