
Bulls Power Past Belmont On Sunday, 3-1

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo, The State University of New York men's soccer team (2-0-0, 0-0-0 MAC) earned their second straight victory on home turf on Sunday afternoon as they downed the Belmont Bruins, 3-1. This marks the first time the Bulls have started a season off 2-0 since the 2008 campaign.

- The Short Story: Buffalo got on the board first for the second straight contest as Nick Forrester notched his first career goal, a diving header in the box, to put the Bulls on top 1-0. Russell Cicerone notched his first of the season in the 40th minute to give UB the 2-0 lead at half. After a Belmont goal, Scott Doney scored his first career UB goal, a header from in close to give the Bulls the 3-1 victory.

How It Happened
- Belmont was able to earn the first shot of the contest in the 14th minute as Rashad Hyacenth took a low hard shot that Cameron Hogg gobbled up for the save.
- In the 23rd minute, Russell Cicerone had a golden opportunity to get the Bulls on the board as he had a free kick from just outside the box. The junior ripped a shot that was blocked but his rebound chance just missed the right corner, keeping the game scoreless.
- 15 minutes later the Bulls were able to get on the board as Nick Forrester notched his first career goal in front of the Buffalo faithful. Russell Cicerone started the play as he fed Marcus Hanson who whipped a perfect low cross into the box where Forrester came diving into the play and connected on the low header goal in the 38th minute.
- Just over a minute later the Bulls offense struck for another goal, this time it was Russell Cicerone with his first goal of the season. Scott Doney whipped a cross into the box where Steven Stryker tried a bicycle kick that found the head of Cicerone who finished off the pretty Buffalo goal, making the score 2-0 and taking the air out of the Bruins.
- Belmont had a golden opportunity to score their first goal in the 41st minute as Hyacenth saw his laser of a shot ring off the cross bar and out of play.
- The Bulls opened up the second half with a great chance to make it 3-0 but Scott Doney's hard right-footed attempt was stopped by the Belmont keeper after a nice lead pass from Marcus Hanson.
- The Bruins were able to counter after the Bulls missed opportunity and scored their first goal, bringing the score to 2-1 in favor of the Bulls in the 50th minute. The ball was whipped into the box and the Bulls were not able to clear, finding the foot of Sean Bernabo who took a hard shot that deflected off a UB defender and into the back of the net.
- With the momentum clearly in the Bruins favor, the Bulls offense was able to put the game away in the 73rd minute. Marcus Hanson made a great run down the left sideline and crossed a perfect pass into the box where Scott Doney headed in his first career goal for the Bulls.
Inside The Numbers
- The Bulls improved to 2-0 with the victory over Belmont, marking the first time UB has started a season out 2-0 since the 2008 season.
- Sophomore Nick Forrester recorded his first career goal in the 39th minute, a beautiful diving header goal that beat the Belmont keeper.
- Junior Steven Stryker notched his first career assist on Russell Cicerone's goal in the first half. Stryker now has a career-high three points through just two matches.
- Senior Marcus Hanson had two assists, matching a career-high for assists in a match. It was the second time in Hanson's career he had two assists in a game.
- The Bulls finished the game with a season-high 15 shots, while holding Belmont to 12 shots.
- Russell Cicerone finished with a team-best four shots while David Enstrom notched three shots.
- Belmont held the 5-2 edge in corner kicks while the Bulls held the 10-9 edge in fouls.
- Cameron Hogg made five saves for the second straight contest for the Bulls.
