UB Football Camp Report: Day 5

BUFFALO, NY - Friday was the fourth day of practice for the UB Football team and the first day in full pads. Here are a few of the day's highlights.
- With the move to a 4-3 defense, the Bulls will feature a four-man front in 2015. In this system there is a need for more edge rushers so the coaching staff has converted a few linebackers to play the defensive end spot. Two of those players, Solomon Jackson and Randy Anyanwu have shown a quick first step and the ability to rush the edge. That continued on Friday. Both looked comfortable in their new role. In fact, Anyanwu added a sack during 11-on-11 drills.
- The tight ends have gotten a lot of work so far in camp. Both Matt Weiser and Mason Schreck have gotten a lot of touches in the intermediate pass game. Joe Licata even connected with Weiser on a deep sideline throw today.
- The right side of the offensive line had some dominant moments during 11-on-11 drills. Both Anthone Taylor and Jordan Johnson had big holes to run through thanks to the blocking of right guard Brandon Manosalvas and right tackle Robert Blodgett.
- On the first play of the final session of 11-on-11 drills, Licata threw a deep ball in stride to Marcus McGill for a 75-yard score.
- Malcolm Robinson had the nicest catch of the day as he made an adjustment on a slightly underthrown ball for a big gain.
- Brandon Berry broke through the line for a tackle for loss on freshman running back Johnathan Hawkins.
The Bulls will be back at it tomorrow morning with the first two-a-day of camp.
