
Max Soria Earns Academic All-MAC Accolades

BUFFALO, NY - Senior captain Max Soria of the University at Buffalo wrestling team was named to the Academic All-MAC team, as announced by the league office on Thursday. Soria was one of 35 student-athletes named to the squad.
"This is another great honor for Max," said head coach John Stutzman. "Max has had a great career on and off the mat for us and his accomplishments are a true testament to his work ethic and character."
The four-year starter and social sciences major currently owns a 3.238 cumulative GPA. On the mat last season, Soria led the Bulls with an overall record of 21-8 on the season to go along with a 12-6 dual meet mark and a 5-3 MAC dual mark. He also led the team in takedowns (33), pins (seven), riding time points (six) and three-point near falls (five).
Soria finished off his illustrious UB career with an overall record of 81-54 and a dual meet record of 36-21, ranking him 17th on the all-time wins list at UB. The Kings Park, NY native is also tied for ninth on the all-time takedowns list at UB with 104 career takedowns.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments for the current season are only considered.
