BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo, The State University of New York freshman wrestler Jake Gunning will attend the 2015 USAW World Cup Training Camp from March 29-August 6.
"This is a great opportunity for Jake," stated second-year head coach John Stutzman. "To train along side of the best wrestlers in the world is going to not only help Jake mentally but it's going to accelerate his development as a wrestler. Jake has high expectations for himself and this is the first step in him achieving his goals and dreams."
The World Cup is wrestling's most important team competition and the annual international dual meet championships. The event features the top eight men's freestyle wrestling teams in the world.
Gunning was invited to attend the USAW World Cup training camp after one season at UB. As a freshman, Gunning accumulated a 28-8 overall record while participating in open tournaments. The Bethlehem, PA native seems to be a perfect fit for the Bulls at 285-pounds as he will aim to earn a starting spot in the Bulls lineup next season.
Gunning will get the opportunity to train with the best grapplers in the world at the training camp, hopefully propelling him to be one of the best heavyweight wrestlers in the country for UB.
