UB Baseball Topped By #21 Houston On Saturday, 9-3

HOUSTON, TX – The University at Buffalo, The State University of New York baseball team (3-9, 0-0 MAC) was defeated on Saturday night by the #21 Houston Cougars by the score of 9-3. The Bulls held the 3-2 lead after two innings but were outscored 7-0 in the final seven to hand them their third straight defeat.
Freshman Ben Vey led the way offensively for the Bulls as he finished his night going 2-for-4 from the plate with a RBI and a run scored in the loss. Brian Dudek finished off his night going 1-for-4 while recording his first double of the season while Chris Kwitzer also finished with a hit for the Bulls who were only able to produce four hits in the game.
Houston opened up the scoring in the first inning as Josh Vidales homered to right field of UB starter Anthony Magovney to give the Cougars the 1-0 lead early on. UB responded quickly however, scoring three runs in the top of the second inning.
Charlie Sobieraski started the inning off with a walk after being hit by a pitch and then Kwitzer singled to right field to move Sobieraski to third. Vey then doubled down the left field line to plate on runner while Kwitzer advanced to third on the play. Eddie Edwards then hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Kwitzer and then Justin Gonzalez grounded out to shortstop to plate Vey.
Houston came back right away in the second inning and plated a runner to make the score 3-2 in favor of the Bulls. UB couldn't hold onto the lead down the stretch as they didn't score another player after the second inning while the Cougars plated seven more runners to earn the 9-3 victory.
Magovney pitched 3.1 innings while allowing five runs and striking out four batters in the loss. Brent Cleland came in to finish of the game for the Bulls and pitched 4.2 innings while allowing two runs and striking out four Cougars.
UB and #21 Houston will wrap up their three-game set on Sunday afternoon at 12:00 pm at Cougar Field.
