
UB Welcomes Bowling Green to Alumni Arena Saturday

UB vs. Bowling Green Game Notes
BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo, State University of New York women's basketball team will host Mid-American Conference opponent Bowling Green Saturday afternoon. The Bulls (12-8, 5-4 MAC) & the Falcons (9-12, 2-8 MAC) will meet for the 30th time with a 2 pm contest in Alumni Arena.
The teams have played 29 times beginning with the inaugural game on Nov. 30, 1997. Bowling Green dominates the series, 24-5, and has won 20 straight dating back to 2002-03 when the Bulls claimed a 72-60 victory. The teams have played a pair of OT contests.
Looking for their fourth straight win, the Bulls have a field goal percentage of 36.1 and a free throw percentage of 66.0. UB, who leads the MAC in three-point field goal defense, offensive rebounds per game, rebounding offense and steals, is averaging 64.2 points and 44.0 boards per game. Senior Kristen Sharkey paces UB with 14.7 points per game to go with 8.2 boards and 35 steals, while shooting a team-best 78.0 percent from the charity stripe. Junior Mackenzie Loesing is averaging 13.2 points per game and has 29 threes on the year. Sophomore Alexus Malone is posting 11.1 points and 8.4 rebounds a contest. She has seven double-doubles and chips in 37 assists and 35 steals. Senior Christa Baccas is contributing 8.1 points per game to help guide the balanced UB offense. She pulls down a Bull-best 8.7 boards per contest, highlighted by a MAC-high 4.0 offensive boards per game. Ranking second all-time at UB and 13th nationally among active Division I student-athletes with 224 blocks, Baccas has 36 to sit second in the conference this season. Junior Karin Moss has dished out a Bull-best 38 assists.
The Falcons, who are on a three-game skid, have won just two of their last 12 games. BGSU opened the season with a 7-2 run. The Falcons have MAC wins over Northern Illinois and Miami (OH). They most recently were edged by Central Michigan, 57-54, on Wednesday. Leading the conference with a free throw percentage of 78.2, BGSU is shooting 36.4 percent from the floor and 31.2 percent at the arc. Deborah Hoekstra paces the Falcons with 11.6 points per game. Miriam Justinger adds 10.1 and Rachel Myers 8.1. Hoekstra is grabbing 6.1 rebounds per outing and Justinger contributes 5.4 to go with a team-best 46 assists. The duo share a team-high with 24 steals apiece.
