
Five Bulls Named to All-MAC Football Team

BUFFALO, NY – Five University at Buffalo, the State University of New York football players were named to the All-Mid-American Conference football team on Wednesday, the conference announced. Matt Weiser was named to the first team; Brandon Berry and John Kling were named to the second team and Okezie Alozie and Boise Ross were named to the third team.
Weiser, a senior tight end, had a breakout season for the Bulls. The Womelsdorf, PA native had 63 receptions for 625 yards and three touchdowns on the year. He shattered the single-season school record for receptions and receiving yards by a tight end. In addition, his 63 catches tied for eighth in school history for a single season.
Berry, a junior linebacker, ranked second on the team and eighth in the MAC in tackles with 104. He added 11.5 tackles for loss, an interception, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He had a stretch of five straight games where he registered double-digit tackles, becoming just the second player in UB's FBS era to accomplish the feat.
Kling was the anchor of UB's offensive line. He started all 12 games at left tackle for the Bulls. He helped pave the way for an offense that rushed for 1,643 yards and passed for 2,994 yards on the season.
Alozie, a senior linebacker, had a team-high five sacks and also ranked third on the team in tackles (85) and tackles for loss (10.5). He had his best game of the season in the Bulls win over Ohio when he had a pair of interceptions, including one he returned for a touchdown. Following the game, he was named the MAC East Division Defensive Player of the Week.
In his first full season at cornerback, Ross blossomed into one of the finest defensive backs in the Mid-American Conference. A junior, Ross ranked second in the MAC and tied for fifth in the nation in passes defended with 20. His 18 pass breakups and two interceptions set a new school record for passes defended in a season. He had 52 tackles to rank sixth on the team.
The UB football team finished the 2015 season with a record of 5-7 under first-year head coach Lance Leipold.
