
Final Score Deceiving in Loss at No. 17 Kent State

KENT, OH - The University at Buffalo, The State University of New York wrestling team battle hard, but lost to 17th-ranked Kent State, 28-3, at the M.A.C. Center on Sunday afternoon. The final score was deceiving as most of the matches Kent State won were very close decisions.
"We wrestled hard! We are young and making mistakes that are costing us," head coach John Stutzman said. "The effort is there. We need to continue to get better."
Brandon Lapi earned the Bulls lone points with a 4-0 decision over Chance Driscoll at 141 lbs. The redshirt-freshman improved his dual record to 3-1 on the season.
Other matches that were very close for the Bulls included Kyle Akins who lost a 3-2 decision to Del Vinas at 125. Bryan Lantry lost to Mack McGuire at 133. Colt Cotten was edged out by Mike DePalma in an 8-7 decision at 149. At 165, Tyler Rill took Tyler Buckwalter to overtime, but lost in a sudden victory. Muhamed McBryde dropped a 3-1 decision to Mike Vollant at 174. Joe Ariola lost a 3-1 decision to Cole Baxter at 184.
The Flashes (5-1, 1-0 MAC) got their second sudden victory of the day when Kyle Conel defeated James Benjamin, 9-8, at 197. Finally, Jake Gunning lost a 6-4 decision to Stephen Suglio at 285.
The Bulls (5-3, 0-2 MAC) will next face Clarion and Appalachian State in Clarion, PA on December 19.
