
UB Swimming and Diving Defeat Ball State, McMaster

BUFFALO, NY- The University at Buffalo, the State University of New York swimming and diving teams competed in their final home meet of 2015. On the men's side, the Bulls defeated McMaster, 249-49, while the women defeated McMaster, 240.50-57.50, and MAC rival Ball State 219.50-79.50.
In the well, the women's team had two top-five finishes in both the one-meter and three-meter dives against Ball State. Abbey Croce finished in second in both events with scores of 223.43 and 235.58, respectively. Mackenzie Moss dove strongly with scores of 219.38 and 207.38 to grab two fourth-place finishes. The men's team also dove strongly, but faced no competition on Saturday.
The men's 500 yard freestyle featured a photo finish between Buffalo's Billy Patrum and McMaster's Mitchell Muizlear. In the end Muizelaar beat Patrum by only .07 seconds with a time of 4:41.69.
Hannah Miller and Jessica Powers finished first and second in the women's 500 yard freestyle with times of 503.98 and 5:05.09, respectively.
Buffalo swept the podium in the men's 100 yard butterfly with Mason Miller, Itai De La Vega, and Andrew Cole-Goins finishing first, second, and third.
In his first race of the 2015-16 season, Scott Huang won the 100 yard breaststroke, 200 yard breastroke, 200 yard IM with times of 56.11, 2:01.80, and 1:53.21, respectively.
Charles Barry finished first in both the 200 yard backstroke (1:52.28) and 1000 yard freestyle (9:27.33). Megan Burns had four first-place finishes with two coming from individual events and the other two coming from the 200 medley relay (1:46.08) and the 200 freestyle relay (1:35.07).
Julia Box won both the 100 yard fly (56.35) and 200 yard fly (204.40) races before coming in second in the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:38.39).
UB women's swimming and diving will travel to Miami (OH) next weekend. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 31. The men's swimming and diving team will next compete at the three-day Bucknell Invite starting on November 20.
