PITTSBURGH, PA - The Buffalo men's soccer team was denied a 2-0 weekend on Sunday afternoon at Duquesne, falling by the score of 3-0. The loss moves UB to 2-6-0, while Duquesne improves to 4-2-2.
"It's frustrating for us because we had a lot of good scoring chances," said head coach Stu Riddle. "We hit the post and the cross bar and wind up on the wrong end of a drubbing because of a lack of desire to defend set pieces."
The Dukes scored the opening goal of the contest in the 32nd minute as Mamadou Traore took a perfect corner kick and headed in his first goal of the season. Just over a minute into the second half, Duquesne took the 2-0 lead as Fredrik Borenstein notched his fourth of the season, beating freshman goalkeeper Cameron Hogg from 12 yards out. The Dukes made finished their scoring in the 73rd minute as Nick Disomma headed home his first goal of the season on the set piece on the corner kick.
Marcus Hanson led all players with a game-high four shots including two on frame while Nicolai Berry came off the bench and recorded a pair of shots on goal. The Bulls held the 20-16 advantage in shots for the game including a 12-8 edge in the second half. Corner kicks were tied at four for the match.
Hogg made five saves including four saves in the second half in the loss. His counterpart, Evan Kozlowski finished off his clean sheet with six saves in the win.
The Bulls will return to the pitch on Saturday, September 27 as they travel to Ithaca for a showdown with the Cornell Big Red at 7:00 pm.
