BUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo rowing head coach Sandy Calfo announced on Thursday the addition of MaryKate Frauenheim to her coaching staff. An accomplished rower, Frauenheim is a Kenmore, NY native who rowed for the prestigious West Side Rowing Club.
"We are very excited to have MaryKate join our rowing staff," Calfo said. "She brings a great understanding of junior rowing and teaching young women how to love the sport. Her high level junior experience mixed with her passion for rowing will really help grow a strong novice class."
Frauenheim is a 2009 graduate of Holy Angels Academy and went on to row at Columbia. Her career was cut short when she suffered an injury following her freshman season. She graduated from Columbia in 2013 with a degree in Neuroscience and PreMed.
Her rowing career included competing at many high-level regattas, including the USRowing Youth National Championships and the Canadian Henley. She was apart of the victorious Junior B Women's 8 team at the 2007 Canadian Henley. In 2009, Frauenheim was named the West Side Rowing Club's Junior Oarswoman of the Year.
In 2013, after her alma mater Holy Angles Academy closed its doors for good, Frauenheim helped establish a rowing program at sister school, Mount St. Mary's Academy. In its inaugural season, Mount St. Mary's gained popularity quickly with over 25 girls joining the team.
