BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo men's soccer team continued their offensive hot streak on Wednesday night at All-High Stadium as they defeated division II opponent Seton Hill by the score of 5-0 in their second exhibition match of the season. The Bulls offense has recorded 12 goals while their defense has yet to allow a single goal against.
"It was another step in the right direction for us today as we look to prepare for the beginning of our regular season," said second-year head coach Stu Riddle. "We were very dangerous in possession today and extremely stingy defensively which was pleasing. We will continue to work hard to improve in the next couple of days and are all very excited to face Rochester on our home turf on Saturday night."
The Buffalo offense picked up right where they left off last exhibition contest as they got on the board first, just 14 minutes into action. Marcus Hanson fed Russell Cicerone to the left of the Seton Hill goal and Cicerone fed a perfect cross which freshman Fox Slotemaker headed into the top corner of the goal.
Following a pair of saves by freshman goalkeeper Cameron Hogg to keep the Bulls ahead, fellow freshman Abdulla Al-Kalisy scored his first of three goals after a perfect pass from Cicerone gave him a wide open net.
The Bulls opened the second half off quick yet again as Al-Kalisy buried his second goal of the game in the 57th minute. Al-Kalisy made a great individual effort to get free in the box and beat Cameron Evans with a perfectly placed shot. Two minutes later, Cicerone ripped a bullet of a shot into the top right corner of the Griffins net on a free kick from just outside the box. The Griffins goalkeeper did not even make an attempt at saving the perfectly placed right-footed rocket from Cicerone, his fourth point of the game.
Dominating most of the action in the second half, Al-Kalisy was able to finish off his hat-trick with a penalty kick goal in the 66th minute, giving the Bulls the 5-0 lead.
Defensively, the Bulls were stingy all game long as the likes of David Enstrom, Alec Fisher, Austin Place and Slotemaker made it very difficult for the Griffins to get any good looks at the Buffalo goal. For the game, the Bulls held the 21-4 advantage in shots with three of Seton Hill's shots being saved by Hogg.
UB will return to UB Stadium to play on the newly installed turf on Saturday night at 7:00 pm as they will take on the University of Rochester. Saturday's match will be the Bulls final exhibition contest as they will kick off the regular season on Friday, August 29 on the road at San Diego.
