ATHENS, OH - For the second straight game, the Ohio Bobcats would build an early lead on the UB baseball team, but Sunday there would be no comeback, as errors would dig a hole that the offense could not account for in a 14-8 loss in Athens. Mike Burke took the loss after the 'Cats scored six unearned runs and ten total off him in just over five innings pitched.

Ohio would build a 7-0 lead in the game before UB would get its first run in the top of the fourth to spark a mid-game run. Freshman Chris Kwitzer, who entered the game as a sub, would hit a one-out solo home run for his first career round-tripper, and Buffalo would add five more runs in the fifth to make it just a 7-6 lead for the home side.

Three straight singles from Thomas Richards, Kyle Brennan and Brian Dudek would load the bases to start the fifth, and Nick Sinay would clear it with a double into the left center gap. Kwitzer would follow with his second RBI hit in as many innings, pulling a double down the right field line to bring in Sinay. Mike Scarcello capped the big inning with a two-out single through the left side.

The rally would be put to rest as Ohio responded with five unanswered runs through the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to rebuild a 12-6 lead. Buffalo's final two runs came in the eighth and ninth, with a solo home run from Richards and an RBI groundout from Kyle Figgins, respectively.

With the loss, UB is now 21-18 overall and 12-8 in the MAC. Ohio improves to 10-33 and 6-16 in conference play. The Bulls have a busy week ahead, starting Tuesday with a game at home against Niagara. Then, it will move to the Purple Eagles' home field for a Wednesday doubleheader before return to Amherst Audubon Field for a crucial MAC series against Miami (OH). First pitch Tuesday is scheduled for 6 pm.
