COLUMBUS, OH – For the third straight season a University at Buffalo football player was honored by the Touchdown Club of Columbus as quarterback Joe Licata was named one of the Mid-American Conference "Players to Watch" in 2014 at the club's yearly awards banquet. Licata was one of five MAC players honored at the 59th Touchdown Club of Columbus Awards at the Lifestyle Communities Pavilion in downtown Columbus.
Licata is coming off a breakout year in his first full season as the Bulls' starting quarterback. He recorded career highs in all passing categories, throwing for 2,824 yards and 24 touchdowns while completing 58 percent of his passes. His 24 touchdown passes were one shy of the school record for a single season. He had the best game of his young career against Toledo when he completed 36-of-58 passes for 497 yards and four touchdowns, setting the school record for attempts, completions and passing yards in a game.
Licata joined Matt Johnson and Travis Greene of Bowling Green, Cameron Stingily of Northern Illinois and Toledo's Kareem Hunt who were also honored.
It marked the third straight year a UB player was honored by the Club as Branden Oliver and Khalil Mack were honored in both 2012 and 2013.
