YPSILANTI, MI – The University at Buffalo wrestling team (3-16, 0-7 MAC) was denied their first conference dual victory of the season on Sunday afternoon as they fell on the road to Eastern Michigan, 34-6.
"This was another tough loss for us," said head coach John Stutzman. "We wrestled hard and we were in position to win some matches which we did. Next up for us is our last dual of the season as we host Northern Illinois on Senior Day at Alumni Arena."
After falling behind 9-0 after the first two matches of the dual, Nick Flannery sparked the Bulls with another decision victory. Flannery defeated Michael Shaw by the score of 11-9 to improve his season record to 17-14. Flannery leads the team in wins and has won three straight duals.
The Bulls struggled through the next six matches, losing all six to the Eagles. Tony Lock put up the best fight for the Bulls at 184-pounds as he pushed his opponent but was not able to pull out the win, falling 3-2 in the final period.
Trailing 34-3 in the final match of the afternoon, James Benjamin picked up a confidence building victory over the talented Khodor Hoballah. Benjamin dominated the match, winning by the score of 7-2 for his eighth win of the season.
Buffalo will conclude their regular season on Sunday, February 23 as they will welcome Northern Illinois to Alumni Arena for a 1:00 pm dual. The Bulls will honor two seniors, Justin Farmer and Flannery, on Sunday as a part of the UB Senior Day festivities.
