BUFFALO, NY - The Buffalo baseball team was back in action Tuesday afternoon, playing its first Big Four game of the season down the road at Canisius College. After getting an early lead over the Griffs (16-7), the Bulls (12-11) allowed five unanswered runs and fell 6-5.
The Bulls took a quick 4-0 lead after the first three innings of the game, starting in the second inning. Mike Scarcello singled into the left center field gap to bring home Jon Mestas to get the offense started.
In the third, Jason Kanzler hit a one-out triple and was then driven in on the next at bat by Alex Baldock, and Tyler Mautner followed with a walk. Ryan Tulloch drove in Baldock with a single to center, and Mautner was able to get to third on the hit. Jon Mestas would cap the scoring with a sacrifice fly. The UB scoring would be capped by another sac fly, this time by Scarcello in the sixth inning, to make it a 5-1 game.
Canisius scored three times in the bottom of the sixth, then added single runs in the seventh and eighth to earn the win. Cory Folk followed up his complete game shutout performance with another solid outing, allowing one run and four hits in five innings.
