
Cannon Ends Run at NCAA Tournament

DES MOINES, IA - Senior 174 pounder John-Martin Cannon's run in the NCAA tournament came to an end Friday afternoon, as he went 1-1 for the day. After a thrilling win in his first match, Cannon came up just short for his eliminating loss.
In the morning, Cannon matched up with Bryce Hammond of Cal. State Bakersfield, and was caught in a dogfight. He trailed 1-0 late in the third period and need to get an escape to stay alive. He made a late escape to tie the match and send it into overtime. After a scoreless sudden victory period, it went to ride outs. Starting on bottom, Cannon pulled a very late reveral to go up 3-1 in the match, and then allowed just an escape to Hammond to pull out the win.
For the next round, he had a rematch against Ohio's Cody Walters, who beat Cannon in the championship round of the NCAA tournament. Cannon was unable to pull it out, and lost 3-1 to end his tournament.
Cannon finishes his career at UB with 84 career wins, good for 15th in the program record books. Also in the record book, Cannon's 135 career takedowns are the fourth most in program history.
The NCAA tournament will conclude tomorrow. For the Bulls, the 2012-13 season has officially come to a close.
