BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo (1-4, 0-2 MAC) wrestling team heads to Iowa City, Iowa to take on the #3 Iowa Hawkeyes (5-0) at the Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Thursday night at 8:00 pm.
ABOUT THE BULLS:
Buffalo enters the match with an overall record of 1-4 on the season and a conference mark of 0-2. The Bulls defeated Sacred Heart by the score of 37-6 on Nov. 30 to give head coach John Stutzman his first career coaching victory at UB. The Bulls opened their conference dual season last weekend at Kent State and Central Michigan, dropping both matches on the road. Angelo Malvestuto leads the Bulls with a dual record of 4-1 while Max Soria continues to pile up the victories, owning a 9-5 overall record and a dual meet record of 3-2. Soria currently ranks first on the team in career victories (55), takedowns (57) and escapes (46).
ABOUT THE HAWKEYES:
The Iowa Hawkeyes are currently the third ranked team in the country as they have a record of 5-0. The Hawkeyes are coming off back-to-back victories over ranked opponents as they downed Iowa State 23-9 and Edinboro 22-19. Iowa has seven players currently ranked inside the top-20 in the nation in their weight including two grapplers, Derek St. John and Ethen Lofthouse, who are ranked #1. The Hawkeyes currently have six wrestlers in their projected lineup with undefeated records so far this season.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES:
The Hawkeyes lead the all-time series with the Bulls 1-0 as Iowa downed UB at Alumni Arena last season by the score of 39-3 in their lone meeting. Mark Lewandowski picked up the lone victory for the Bulls at 165 pounds as he downed current Hawkeye Nick Moore.
