BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo women's rowing team signed two athletes in the early signing period, the team announced on Thursday. Joining the team for the 2014-15 season will be Paige Krohn from Detroit, MI, and Elizabeth Shilling from Dublin, OH.
Krohn attends Grosse Ile High School and competes on the school's rowing team. In 2013, she won gold at the Western Ontario Secondary School Championship, and finished sixth at the Midwest Scholastic Rowing Championships. Paige said she chose UB because "athletically and academically, Buffalo is a place where I can succeed."
Shilling attends Dublin Coffman High School, and rows for the Westerville Crew team out of Westerville, OH. She won silver at the 2013 Governor's Cup Regatta in the first Varsity 8, and had a pair of top-20 finishes at the Head of the Hooch. In her Varsity 8 race of the event, her team finished 19th of 60, and in the Varsity 4 they placed 20 of 66. Liz said she chose UB because "of their strong nursing program and competitive rowing team."
"We are thrilled to have Paige and Liz joining us next fall," head coach Sandy Calfo said. "Their love of the sport and dedication to hard work will help them make an immediate impact on this program. We look forward to watching them grow, both athletically and academically, here at UB!"
The rowing team is currently training for the Spring, after the conclusion of the Fall 2013 schedule on Oct. 26.
