BUFFALO, NY – With one home game still remaining, the University at Buffalo has already set a new football season attendance record as the Bulls have posted a paid attendance of 110,192 through the first five home games.
The previous record of 108,118 was set in 2011. This season, the Bulls have averaged 22,038 fans per game, with four games over the 20,000 mark. To put that in perspective, UB had a total of four games of 20,000 or more fans over the past five seasons, combined.
One of UB Athletic Director Danny White's goals when taking the job last year was to create a vibrant tailgate atmosphere at UB Stadium. His vision resulted in Stampede Square, a family-friendly entertainment area that includes food, games and activities for all ages.
Stampede Square is also the home of the Tailgate Concert Series, which has been a very popular addition to the game day festivities. Each week, award-winning national music acts took the stage to perform. Bands such as Kool and the Gang, Blues Traveler and Randy Houser rocked Stamped Square in the hours leading up to kick off.
"We couldn't be more pleased with how well our fans have come out to support our football team this year," White said. "We knew that if we built a spirited tailgate atmosphere, it would encourage our fans to come back week after week. The community response has been outstanding and we hope this is just the start of something big."
The Bulls have one more home game on November 29 when they host Bowling Green at Ralph Wilson Stadium. Dubbed the "Black Friday Clash at the Ralph," the game will pit the top two teams in the Mid-American Conference's East Division, with the winner going to the MAC Championship game in Detroit.
Tickets for the "Black Friday Clash at the Ralph" are available at the Alumni Arena ticket office, Ticketmaster or by calling 1-877-UB-THERE.
