BUFFALO, NY - Senior forward Javon McCrea has been named to the 2013 Lou Henson preseason All-America team, the organization announced earlier this week. The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the top Mid-Major player in Division I college basketball. The award is named in honor of Lou Henson who retired after a spectacular coaching career that lasted 41 years.
McCrea enters his final season fifth in school history in career scoring with 1,467 points after a junior campaign where he became the school's single-season scoring leader. McCrea is a two-time first-team All-MAC selection and he is one of three players from the Mid-American Conference on the list. Last year McCrea finished second in the MAC in scoring (18.0), tied for third in rebounding (7.9), third in field goal percentage (.557), and second in blocked shots (89).
Over the summer, McCrea was one of 30 college participants at the adidas Nations Basketball Experience where he served as a counselor for some of the top high school prospects in the world and he competed against some of the best college players.
Fans will have their first chance to see McCrea and first-year head coach Bobby Hurley on Oct. 19 as the Bulls will hold an open practice prior to UB's football game against UMass. On Oct. 25, McCrea and his teammates will show off their skills as part of Bulls Madness, which will take place in Alumni Arena.
