BUFFALO, NY - The Buffalo wrestling team added critical depth on Wednesday with the signing of a top 150 recruit, Jason Estevez. Estevez comes to Buffalo from Livingston High School in New Jersey, where he was one of the greatest wrestlers in school history.
"We are very excited to add Jason to our program," stated first year head coach John Stutzman. "He will make an immediate impact for us and is capable of winning at a high level right way. I have known Jason since last year and the one thing I know is that he has the work ethic, talent and passion to compete for a NCAA Championship."
Estevez had an outstanding high school career at Livingston as he amassed over 140 career wins while being a four-time New Jersey State qualifier and a two-time New Jersey State place winner, finishing third in 2012 and 2013.
As a senior, he entered the State Tournament with a 40-1 overall record while earning the second seed. Estevez recorded his second-straight third place finish at the State Tournament. He also became just the ninth wrestler in Essex County history to win four county wrestling titles.
Estevez will come to UB and compete immediately for starting position in the lineup at the 133-pound weight class.
The Bulls open up their 2013-14 campaign on November 9 as they travel to Brockport, NY for the Oklahoma Gold Classic.
