ATHENS, OH - The Buffalo wrestling team fell to 1-2 in the Mid-American Conference dual season Saturday night, losing 26-13 at Ohio. The Bobcats (5-5, 3-2 MAC) scored bonus points in four of its six total wins to pull away after the Bulls (1-8, 1-2 MAC) earned an early lead in the match.
With the dual starting at 133, Ohio took the opening match but Buffalo ran back out front 7-3 after wins by Erik Galloway at 141 and Blake Roulo at 149. Galloway jumped up on Kagan Squire 6-2 after the first period and cruised to the win with a third period and riding time point to boost his score. Roulo scored the team's lone bonus points of the day, winning a 14-1 major decision over Gavin Moore. He scored a quick takedown and scored three back points in the first period, and starting the second period on top, Roulo turned Moore twice for six back points in the second period and took him down again in the third for the big win. This continues a hot streak for the sophomore, who has won nine of the past 11 matches (five of which have come in duals).
A pin for Ohio at 157 put the host Bobcats back up 9-7, but the lead was short lived thanks to a 4-0 win for Mark Lewandowski, who is on a hot streak of his own. The win was the sixth in a row and the eleventh in the past 14 matches. The win was number 105 for the senior, who now sits alone in fifth place on the all-time wins list after snapping a tie with Mark Budd. The decision gave Buffalo a short-lived 10-9 lead in the overall match. Ohio would respond with four straight wins, including three straight bonus-point wins from 184 to heavyweight.
The dual would come to an end with a win from Max Soria. After falling behind 4-1 in the first period to Kevon Powell, Soria earned an escape, then broke Powell with a takedown and two back points to turn the first three minutes into a 6-4 lead. He would keep the two-point lead through the second period after making two escapes to counter Powell's takedown, and iced the win with a third-period takedown for the 10-6 win.
Buffalo will now return home for the final two MAC duals, with Kent State coming to Alumni Arena next Sunday at 1 pm.
