MONTREAL – The University at Buffalo men's basketball team continued its Canadian tour with a 71-62 win over Laval University in Montreal on Sunday afternoon. Auraum Nuiriankh led the Bulls with 17 points, six rebounds and three assists.
A big, physical team, Laval was a good test for the Bulls. The game was tight throughout before UB was able to pull away in the second half. Buffalo led 34-27 at the half, before Laval battled back in the second stanza. The lead would see-saw in the second half with neither team leading by more than four points. The Bulls were finally able to pull away and build a 12-point advantage, before settling for the nine-point victory.
With starters in foul trouble, the Bulls leaned on their bench and the reserves responded. Xavier Ford notched a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Raphell Thomas-Edwards had seven points and 10 rebounds in 23 minutes of action.
Freshman Jarryn Skeete finished with six points, three rebounds and three assists.
Buffalo gets a day off tomorrow before playing national power Carleton University on Tuesday night in Ottawa.
