Buffalo Earns a Pair of Medals at Dad Vail Regatta

PHILADELPHIA – The University at Buffalo rowing team took home two medals at the Dad Vail Regatta as the lightweight eight boat earned a silver and the varsity eight won bronze in Philadelphia on Saturday. In all, the Bulls had three boats advance to the finals.
"I was very pleased that we had three crews advance to the finals," head coach Rudy Wieler said.
The lightweight eight boat of Katherine Evely, Margaret Lawn, Megan Klyczek, Julia Hahn, Cornelia Willis, Katie Coffin, Jean Kang, Haley Bryk and Jessica Ashbaugh took second with a time of 7:20.6. The Bulls finished ahead of MIT, Tulsa and Purdue. Bucknell won the gold with a time of 7:05.2
Considering there were 34 boats in the field, Wieler was especially pleased with the third-place finish of the varsity eight boat.
"They did a fantastic job," Wieler said."They raced the race of their lives to earn that medal."
The varsity eight boat of Alison Sheehan, Rosa Kemp, Hannah Miller-Selzer, Jacklyn Postulka, Heide MacMahon-Manning, Kaitlyn Koscielniak, Shannon David, Sydney Gilchrist and Brittany Ronald finished with a time of 6:47.81. It was just four seconds behind the winner, Duke.
The second varsity eight boat of Emily Glasgow, Danielle Carlino, Sarah Gallagher, Deborah Garth, Rachel Cuthbert, Justine Bottorff, Francisca Strange-Sepulva, Brittany Davidson, and Elizabeth Murphy also advanced to the finals and finished sixth in their race with a time of 7:30.4.
As a team, Buffalo finished third in overall points.
The racing continues on Sunday as the Bulls will compete at the Eastern Sprints.
