BUFFALO, NY - Fresh off his first New York State title, incoming wrestling recruit Tony Lock added some more hardware to his collection, winning the 182-pound title at the 2012 National High School Coaches Association Senior Tournament Sunday afternoon. The Pioneer High School senior defeated Nolan Boyd of Oklahoma 5-4 in overtime for the national championship.
To open the tournament, which included the top high school seniors from all 50 states, Lock beat Connecticut's Aaron Wing 15-1. He then toughed out a pair of 3-2 wins in the next two rounds, with wins over Gray Jones of Georgia and New Jersey's Bryan Loughlin. To earn a shot at the title, he beat Reece Wright-Conklin of Kansas 6-3. In the championship match, Lock was able to secure a hard-fought win in overtime over Boyd, a three-time Oklahoma state champion.
Projected to wrestle at 174 or 184 pounds, Tony finished his season at Pioneer with a flawless 51-0 record to cap off a two-year run that earned him a record of 99-2, with one of those losses coming in last year's state final.
