BUFFALO, NY – Universty at Buffalo sophomore forward Will Regan was named the Mid-American Conference Scholar Athlete of the Week on Friday. Regan is an accounting major with a 3.60 grade point average.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
Regan, who was also named the MAC East Division Player of the Week on Monday, averaged 18 points and 7.5 rebounds in a pair of wins last week.
Regan shot 12-of-18 from the field (67 percent), including 4-of-8 from beyond the arc for the week. He was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw on the week.
At Milwaukee, the sophomore forward had 10 points, seven rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block to help the Bulls earn the 72-52 road win.
He followed that up with the best game of his young UB career as he had 26 points and eight rebounds – both career highs. He shot 8-of-11 from the field, including 3-of-4 from long distance. He scored seven of his points in the final 3:20, including a pivotal three-pointer that extended the UB lead from five to eight points, to help the Bulls hold off Niagara.
Regan is the second UB student-athlete to win the award this year. Colby Way of the football team was named the MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week on Sept. 5.
Buffalo will next face Washington State in Seattle on Dec. 21.
