
Javon McCrea Named Preseason Big Four Player of the Year

BUFFALO, NY – Javon McCrea was named the Preseason Big Four Player of the Year on Thursday at the Big Four Basketball Media Day, held at Pearl Street Grill and Brewery in downtown Buffalo. The junior forward also headlined the Preseason All-Big Four First Team, as voted on by media and athletic communications staffs that cover Buffalo, Canisius, Niagara and St. Bonaventure.
McCrea started all 31 games last season for the Bulls and averaged 14.7 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. The 2011 Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year, he closed out his sophomore campaign ranked sixth in the MAC in scoring average, fifth in rebounds per game, fourth in blocked shots per game (1.3) and second in field goal shooting percentage. A native of Newark, N.Y., McCrea is one of eight returning letterwinners for the Buffalo team this season.
Junior point guard Jarod Oldham and sophomore forward Will Regan were named to the Preseason All-Big Four Second Team.
Oldham averaged 4.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and a MAC-best 5.9 assists per game last season. His 183 assists were the most by any UB player since Gary Domzalski in the 1975-76 season and the fourth most in a single season in program history.
Regan is a transfer from Virginia who sat out last season per NCAA transfer rules. Regan was a standout at The Nichols School in Buffalo where he was the 2010 New York State Class A Player of the Year and two-time Buffalo News Player of the Year. He finished his high school career with 2,008 points and 1,360 rebounds.
