BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo men's basketball team will play one of its most challenging schedules in the Reggie Witherspoon era. The Bulls' schedule includes nonconference games against Florida State, Washington State, Tulsa, Temple, Milwaukee, Princeton and St. Bonaventure.
"I think this is the most challenging schedule we have ever had," Witherspoon said. "When you look at the quality of our opponents and where we are playing them as well as the teams that are coming in here in nonconference play and the strength of the conference, makes this a very challenging schedule."
Buffalo will open the season at home against Princeton on Nov. 10. The Bulls will then hit the road to participate in the NABC Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. UB will first play at Florida State on Nov. 12 before traveling to Indiana to face Evansville, Yale and Western Illinois on Nov. 15-17. All three games will be played at Evansville University.
The Bulls will play at Canisius on Nov. 20 and then return home to host Temple on Nov. 28.
December opens with a road contest at St. Bonaventure on Dec. 1. The Bulls will then travel to Milwaukee to face the Panthers on Dec. 5. After a home contest against Niagara on Nov. 8, the Bulls will travel across the country to play Washington State in the Cougar Hardwood Classic in Seattle's Key Arena on Dec. 21.
After hosting Division II Notre Dame College on Dec. 28, the Bulls will close out non-conference play at Tulsa on Jan. 2.
"Our hope is that our nonconference schedule gets us better prepared for our conference schedule particularly given that we are so young," Witherspoon said.
Buffalo will open Mid-American Conference play on Jan. 9 when it plays at defending MAC champion Ohio. The Bulls will then return home for three straight games at Alumni Arena against Miami (Jan. 12), Kent State (Jan. 16) and Bowling Green (Jan. 19).
For the ninth straight year, UB will participate in the ESPN BracketBuster. The Bulls will host a yet-to-be-determined opponent on February 23.
The Bulls will play their conference finale at Bowling Green on March 9.
The FirstEnergy MAC Tournament begins on March 11 with campus site games. The remainder of the tournament will once again be played at Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena.
