BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo Division of Athletics announced its latest facility upgrade with the unveiling of the Brinkworth/McNally Football Alumni Team Meeting Room at UB Stadium on Friday.
The tiered meeting room is equipped with theatre-style seating and state-of-the-art video equipment. Leadership gifts were made by former football players Kevin Brinkworth and Jim McNally. Both Brinkworth and McNally are members of the prestigious Dr. and Mrs. Edmond J. Gicewicz Family Athletics Hall of Fame.
"With this room, it enhances our coaches' and our players' ability to build and continue building a championship football program," head coach Jeff Quinn said. "I couldn't be more proud to represent something like this. Their names are going to be engraved in the hearts of all past, present and future Bulls."
Brinkworth who played OL/DL from 1959-62 and McNally who also played OL/DL from 1961-64 are lifelong friends and supporters of UB Athletics. Besides Brinkworth and McNally, over 100 former football players from every decade (including the 1930s) made philanthropic gifts to this project. Each will be acknowledged with their name plaque on a seat in the team meeting room.
Other upgrades to the complex include the Ronald M. LaRocque Players Lounge which is located inside the football locker room and includes leather couches, flat screen televisions and gaming systems. Leadership gifts were made by Kevin Brinkworth, Jim McNally, Don Gilbert, Dave DeMarco and the Valentic Family to pay tribute to longtime football and wrestling coach Ronald M. LaRocque.
In addition, a permanent display honoring the 1958 Lambert Cup Football Team was created for the lobby-area of the stadium complex. Historic mementos, as well as a plaque recognizing the 1958 Lambert Cup Football Team Legacy Scholarship recipient are part of the display. Members of the 1958 team have established an endowed scholarship that will be awarded annually to a football player who exemplifies the characteristics and spirit of the 1958 team and excels both on the field and in the classroom. To date, over $200,000 has been resided for the scholarship endowment. The 2011 inaugural recipient is John Syty.
